woodlandfriendsdress

Isn’t this dress to-die-for cute? It is from the Gracie pattern from Portabellopixie. Joyce made this cute little dress up for Quilt Market, and everyone’s just been going ga-ga over it!

Anyhow, for the contest you need to come up with your own original design, but who says you can’t be inspired? Sometimes seeing other lovely things gives you just the creative nudge you need!

And remember–there are some great prizes waiting for that Grand Prize Winner…like having your project photographed and featured in our ad in American Patchwork & Quilting…a phenomenal magazine…
AmericanPatchworkandQuiltin

…and did I mention the $200 gift certificate to your quilt shop of choice…or fabric shop if you aren’t a quilter. Now that would be one nice shopping spree! AND, all 5 finalists get to keep their project and any leftover fabrics, and have their projects photographed and posted on our awesome blog!

Ok, I hope to hear from more of you soon…have fun creating, and send me your sketches to blog@clothworkstextiles.com.

Woodland Friends II Contest–You could be famous!

How would you like to have your sewing project featured in our full page advertisement in the December 2010 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting AND win a $200 gift certificate to your quilt shop of choice?!  All you need to do is come up with an original sewing project for the Woodland Friends II collection and send us a sketch of your idea.  Projects can be anything you can imagine…from apparel, to home dec, to quilting, to baby, and beyond!

Woodland-Friends-II

Sketches must be sent to blog@clothworkstextiles.com by May 10th.   You must use fabric from the Woodland Friends II collection by Ellen Crimi-Trent and yardage must not exceed 3 yards total (this includes backing and binding if your project is a quilt).  Please include notes in your sketch indicating which fabrics go where using the numbers listed under each fabric on our website here.  Sketches also need to include approximate dimensions (see example).  Please also include your yardage requirements for each fabric.  Project ideas must be your own–not from a pattern.  It is fine to take technical guidance and inspiration from patterns, but you must recreate your own pattern and make it your own.  That’s part of the fun anyways–this is all about creating here!

Owly-Market-Bag

5 finalists will be selected to receive fabric from the Woodland Friends II collection and will be asked to complete their projects using the fabric provided.  Finalists will be announced on May 12th.  Project yardage will be sent out to the finalists the last week in June and final projects will be due on July 22nd.  All 5 projects will be photographed and featured on our blog on July 29th.  The winner will also be announced on July 29th.  All projects will be returned to finalists to keep.

The Grand Prize Winner will have their project featured in our ad in the December 2010 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting and will also win a $200 gift certificate to their quilt shop of choice!

So get creative, and let’s see what you can dream up!  Email us at blog@clothworkstextiles.com with your sketches and/or questions.  We look forward to hearing from you!

A Stylish Hospital Gown?

When I first saw this photo I didn’t know what it was for and I thought–ooh what a pretty dress–wouldn’t that look cute with some boots and a little scarf?  Then I saw it was a hospital gown–ha!  I love it!  The gown is from Annie & Isabel.

This gown is made in Pamela Mostek’s zebra print from the Poppies line.

Delphi, the Clothworks office dog!

It’s about time that all of you got the pleasure of meeting our furriest and cutest employee.  If you ever come by the office you may get to meet him.  Just be careful if you come around lunch time…you may encounter a white flash running down the hall with such force it blows your hair back!  The white flash is Delphi, our office dog, racing down the hallway to have his lunch time apple!

Delphi3Delphi and I had a chat awhile back, and this is what he had to tell me about his life as Clothworks office dog:

I was born in San Rafael CA at the Guidedogs for the Blind campus.  I came to Seattle when I was 8 weeks old.

My mom, Angela was raising me to see if I could become a guidedog for a blind person.  I was pretty good at most of the tasks, but as the months went by, I got more distracted and stressed by all of the sights, smells and sounds around me.  On my first birthday it was decided that I wasn’t cut out to be a guide dog so my mom officially adopted me.  Hooray!  My life got much easier!  Although if you ask me, my mom is still pretty strict…..(only 50% of the dogs being raised to be a guide actually graduate and work.  Just like we all aren’t cut out to be doctors or lawyers, not all dogs can handle the stress of being a guide dog.)

Delphi2My mom and I have gone to lots of obedience classes since then so that I could learn many commands and “work” my brain.  I get to go to work with my mom every day and it is my second home.  I am definitely a “people dog” and am very lonely when I am by myself.  My friends at the office are very nice, and throw my toys for me sometimes too.  I like to run up and down the hall first thing in the morning when there aren’t many people there.  I mostly stay on my bed next to my mom’s desk, but even when I lay in the walkway, everyone just steps over me!

Delphi5

A highlight of my day is when mom and I go outside for a short break.  I like to grab my leash and play tug with her.

I also LOVE lunchtime!  ( I am a lab after all!)  Even though I don’t get everything that I want, I get a couple of treats while everyone else is eating.  Sometimes they even drop bites for me!

Delphi1Here’s a picture of me and my mom.

Delphi4Thanks for the chat, Delphi!  I’ve got to say, nothing brightens the day more than a nice petting session with Mr. Delphi…

Have a great weekend, and Happy Quilting!
