Urban Landscapes Memory Quilts!

UPDATE! I just got an email from Dee with a photo of her quilt hanging in an Austin Area Quilt Guild exhibit! This memory quilt is of her younger son, Sam. Adorable! I love how the quilting turned out! Thanks so much for the photo and congrats on having your work on display!
Oh how I love it when we get photos of Clothworks creations made by fans…so it made my day yesterday when Dee, the winner from the Urban Landscapes giveaway sent me these pictures:
Check out Dee’s blog post about her cool projects and adorable kiddos here.
In reading Dee’s blog, I discovered that she’s a talented art quilter! So I look forward to seeing what she does to embellish and finish these sweet little works of art.

Thanks for sharing, Dee, and Happy Quilting!

Fun Urban Landscapes Bag!

You may recognize this messenger-style bag from one of our recent free patterns for the Grease fabric collection, and that’s because it is just a square version of that pattern. Cute, huh? Joyce made it up in the Urban Landscapes fabric and the circles were inspired by Kathy York’s quilt featuring satin-stitched circles in an upcoming issue of International Quilt Fest: Quilt Scene by Quilting Arts.
You can see Kathy’s tutorial of her satin stitch tehcnique on Quilting Arts In Stitches eMagazine.
Isn’t it fun? And you can pair it with the coin purses from my “Zippers Are No Big Deal” blog post last week!
Well that’s it for this week. What are you making this weekend? Catching up on any UFO’s, or starting new projects? I’ll be working on some more cloth diapers for the baby (see blog post on The Nappies). Happy Sewing!

Urban Landscapes Winner!

Congrats to the winner from my “Zippers Are No Big Deal!” blog post: Dee. I asked everyone what projects they were working on and it was so interesting reading all of the answers! Dee said, “I’m finishing up embellishing a couple of quilts for the Austin Area Quilt Guild’s 2010 Show, Changing Gears. The show’s September 17-19 at Palmer Events Center. Should be a blast.” Sounds fun Dee! Hopefully you’ll find time to make something really cool out of your Urban Landscapes fabric winnings!

Thanks to everyone who participated…let’s have one last look at my cool coin purses!! I am so excited about my newly acquired zipper skills!

Zippers Are No Big Deal!

I have always been one of those quilters that sticks strictly to quilting…I am totally afraid to make my own clothes or step outside the bounds of quilting. I have always wanted to, though, so recently I’ve been stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying some new things! I saw this pattern for a cute little zippered pouch at Quilt Market by Atkinson Designs. The pattern is called “Cash and Carry”. They had a little slogan, “Zippers Are No Big Deal”. Well of course I had to try it out and see. The pattern sat on my sewing table for the last couple months and last night I finally got the courage to try it out!
The first one went together in a snap…it WAS easy! I used this awesome fabric from Kathy York’s collection Urban Landscapes.
With the second one I got over confident. Hehehe, yeah–you gotta make sure the zipper pull is in the middle when you sew on your zipper stops :).
But it’s a learning process! I now feel confident on how to use zippers and I think this is a MUST HAVE pattern! What a great little accessory. I could make dozens of these. What a perfect gift too! Thanks to the gals at Atkinson Designs for an excellent pattern with an excellent lesson built in! You can check out the pattern and other excellent goodies here. They only sell wholesale, so if you are a shop, you can visit their website for ordering info. If you are not a business, you can use their retail directory to find a shop near you who carries their patterns here.

So what are you sewing this weekend? I’d love to hear from you. I have some leftover pieces of Urban Landscapes I’d love to send to one random lucky winner…just leave a comment telling me what projects you’re working on these days! One comment per person, please. I’ll announce the winner on Monday afternoon!

How to Sew Corners on Binding!

Do you dread putting the finishing touches on your quilt because of those tricky mitered corners on the binding? Well fear it no more! I made this quick little video to show you how to do the corners so you’ll never forget again! Put it on your favorites and review before each quilt. In no time you’ll become a pro!

Now get to finishing those quilts, and Happy Quilting!
