Some of our more prolific quilter friends here at the Works have been busy making some nifty projects, lately. With the weather turning to cooler temps and daylight hours becoming shorter, perhaps a few glimpses of their recent quilty pursuits will help inspire you to get cozy indoors and go to town with your sewing machine!
Every time Jean, one of our Sample Maker Extraordinaires, visits us at the Works, she always brings fun Show & Tell. Today was no different. Here’s her version of the ‘Capsule Quilt’ pattern by Jen Carlton-Bailly using the gorgeous American Made Brand solids. Can you say ‘winning combo’?!!!
With the combination of vibrant colors grounded by dark grey which play up the simplistic modern design inspired by a pill capsule, this quilt will surely help shake off those ‘Winter Blues’. The pattern originally was published in Modern Patchwork Spring 2014, but you can also find the pattern download at this link for a nominal fee. A long-arm quilter at one of our local Seattle quilt shops, The Quilting Loft, quilted this using the fun ‘bubble’ pantograph motif.
Our next fun Show & Tell is brought in by Gabe, one of our sample room extraordinaires! Gabe is always working on a new project every time I see her. Here’s yet another very simplistic, modern design that works very well with a mix of solids and prints. Gabe used the recent Clothworks release, Poppy Passion by Karen Roti and grounded the prints with solid black. This is one of the most stunning Black/Red/White quilts I have seen!! I love how Gabe created an ‘ombre’ effect using the most white-dominant prints at the top and placing the more black/red-dominant prints towards the bottom.
Gabe is proudly posing with her work of art here. Kudos to her–She plans to give this away to a friend that took great care of her son while he endured a recent hospital visit. Lucky for you, if you want to create this beauty of a quilt pattern, called ‘Crazy for Daisies’ which originally appeared in McCall’s Quick Quilts October/ November 2013 issue, you can go to this link to find more info on how to purchase the digital issue of the pattern. Oh, and did I mention there’s a matching pillow case pattern that has a free pattern download, too?
Time to get your stitch on!! Happy Sewing and enjoy your weekend!
10/6/14 UPDATE: Please note, I mistakenly wrote in my post on Friday that you could down the ‘Crazy for Daisies’ quilt pattern for free. That is incorrect; the quilt can be digitally downloaded for nominal fee at this link. You can download the matching pillow case pattern for free here at this link. I apologize for the confusion in communication.
