With a finished size of 46 1/4″ x 59″, the ‘Best Friends’ quilt will make the perfect quilt for curling up on the couch with your favorite lap dog friend!  Head to Fons & Porter’s link to purchase this issue of Easy Quilts magazine (available also in digital download for purchase), and let the step-by-step instructions with illustrations guide you to construct this adorable quilt.

Best Friends quilt

Comprised of a center star surrounded by 8 Friendship Star blocks, it’s no wonder this quilt has earned its name as ‘Best Friends’.  Designer Nancy Lacey highlights the tossed canine prints from the Dog Park collection by Clothworks with her use of fussy-cutting in the pieced blocks.  Not only does Nancy Lacey contribute quilts for magazines like this one, but she also works for Quilts for Kids Inc., a charitable organization that helps connect quilts for kids in need.  Check out the link to the Quilts for Kids organization to find out more information on how to volunteer and help out in this wonderful charity.  Or, better yet….you could make this quilt here to donate to Quilts for Kids, since the ‘Best Friends’ quilt pattern meets the requirements for donations and QFK approved!

So, now, about that giveaway, eh?

Since we’re approaching the season of giving, I’ve got a few substantially-sized pieces of fabrics from the Dog Park collection (as pictured below) I’d like to giveaway to one lucky blog post reader as a big THANKS for following us here at the Works!!  Perhaps the lucky winner will be inspired to use this fabric to make a quilt for a charity or a gift for your favorite furry friend.  The Gift of Giving keeps on giving, right?!!

  1. I support a rescue animal league along with giving a wish to children with cancer on our boat. I have not as yet made a quilt for either but what a great idea! Thank you!

  2. I make quilts for Project Linus and our local NICU, and pillow cases for ConKerr Cancer and a local shelter for domestic abuse. This is a great collection!

  3. My quilting guild has a Charity Quilts group that meets once a month. We donate quilts to numerous charities in the St Louis area. We just donated about 50 or so quilts last month. We also have started making “kennel quilts” for animal shelters across the country that have a need because of fires, floods, hoarding situations, and tornadoes. To date we have donated 296 to that cause. All of our fabrics comes from donations and we are grateful for everything we receive.

  4. I support my local shelter and give old towels and blankets for them to use.

Love those fabrics! My sister in law has 2 pugs and a bulldog. She’d love a quilt from this!

  5. My husband and I support Heifer International, the Dallas Advocacy Center, Special Olympics and our church to name a few. I haven’t donated quilts before but have several ready to give to Catholic Charities in Tulsa.

  6. i love the dog prints!!!!!! my husband and i make thanksgiving dinner and take it to the veteran house here in town. they have room for 13 vets that are down on their luck and help them with job training, addiction counseling and whatever they need to adjust to civilian life. i also make quilts and give to these vets. we don’t have alot so can’t give alot, but we think the vets are very worthy and dont always get treated as they should.

  7. I don’t quilt for charity, but I do quilt for gifts. I work for a charity, a mission agency, volunteering my time with free clothing that is donated, and caring for the elderly, retired missionaries.

  8. Oh I just got inspired! I support my church but have yet to make a quilt for any charity. I am still super new to quilting but just decided if I were the lucky winner I would use this fabric as a part of my first charity quilt! Hurrah hurrah! 🙂

  9. I make quilts for the Battered women’s Shelter. This would be perfect for I Spy quilts. I’m always on the look out for fabric for that.

  10. I make quilts for the American Boxer Charitable Foundation annual raffle which raises money for health research for boxers. Our study on DM disease has helped humans with ALS

  11. I support various charities with my sewing, but my two favorite are Dress A Girl Around the World and Operation Christmas Child. I make anything a child would love — especially dresses for little girls.

  12. our quilt picks a charity each year – this year it’s the girls ranch – to do charity quilts and instead of exchaning Christmas gifts at the guild meeting in Dec we donate small items and gift cards to the girls ranch! mumbird3(at)gmail(dot)com

  13. My husband and I give 10% of our income to our church who then distributes it to other places in the world who need it, including the poor and hungry. We also support the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots and the United Way that helps our own community. I help make quilts with the church ladies who sends them oversees to those in need.

  14. I support quilt guild’s community service quilters as well as quilts of valor. Also support a very special horse rescue in Florida. Have made many donations to each of them.
