Farm to Fabric Challenge: Quilt Exhibition Online!

In case you may have missed this exhibition at the International Quilt Market in Houston, TX this past autumn, you can view the juried exhibition of quilts from the comfy confines of your couch while cruising the internet with your laptop or tablet!  We’ve posted these stunning quilt masterpieces in an online gallery on the American Made Brand website where you can click on this link  to view it!

To back up a bit, this past year, we held a Farm to Fabric Challenge in honor of the launch of the newest Clothworks division, American Made Brand.  American Made Brand began releasing an assortment of 50 solid colors made from 100% cotton fabric that was grown here in the USA and processed into a dyed woven fabric, never leaving the shores of the Continental USA– or quite literally, from ‘Farm to Fabric’!  We put out a call for entries, challenging the most talented and artistic quilters out there to create a quilt using American Made Brand solid fabric.  These quilt entries needed to speak to this theme:  What does it mean to you, your family or your community to bring fabric production back to America to use in your American made quilts?

A stellar jury comprised of 3 incredible women who all reign in the quilting & sewing communities, including Pokey Bolton, Alissa Haight Carlton, and Heather Jones, judged the entries submitted to the Farm to Fabric Challenge, and chose many gorgeous and inspiring quilts that were shown in an exhibition at the International Quilt Market and Festival this past autumn.

Head to this link  to view our ‘virtual exhibition’ online.  Here, you can click on each of the quilt thumbnails to see who made it and what the source of their inspiration was in creating it.

I don’t want to give them all away, but here’s a sneak peek of one of the entries:

Grab a cuppa joe or tea, curl up on the sofa, and take in all of these beautiful creations- head to this link!  They are simply stunning works of art that celebrate the Farm to Fabric movement and what it means to be American Made!

The Season of Giving: Clothworks Fabrics Made into Charity Quilts!

Frog & Toad Charity QuiltOne of the local quilt guilds near us in the greater Seattle, WA- area, had some fun show & tell that they sent in today.  Since we’re in the midst of the season of giving, perhaps this might inspire ya’ll to be as charitable as these kindhearted quilters are!

Shown in the pic above is Cindy, a member of Busy Bee Quilter’s Guild.  She’s proudly showing off one of her charity quilts made from the Clothworks collection, Frog & Toad Together.  This quilt will be donated to a homeless shelter in Everett, WA to comfort & warm a less-fortunate child.

This darling quilt pictured below using another Clothworks collection you might remember, called Hullabaloo by Iron Orchid Designs, was also made by Cindy.  It, too, will be donated to the homeless shelter in Everett.

The Busy Bee Quilter’s Guild surely lives up to its name!  As part of the guild’s mission, they routinely collaborate on making quilts to donate to charities all throughout the year.  Just take a look at them below in action in what they affectionately call ‘the sweatshop’!

In this hive of industry with creativity buzzing about, even husband Gary (pictured above in the middle) wants to be a part of the action and is working on a quilt, too.

Pictured below are a few more members of Busy Bee Quilters Guild.  That’s Jean at the left, and Cathy at the right.

For those of you lucky enough to live in Washington State near Lake Washington, it’s time to get your shop-on and support a few of the Local Quilt Shops this weekend.  Five featured Local Quilt Shops around the Greater Seattle area will be hosting the First Annual Around the Lake Quilt Shop Holiday Hop this coming Friday December 5th & Saturday December 6th!

During this first ever mini Holiday-themed Shop Hop, a free pattern will be featured highlighting Clothworks fabric, American Made Brand solids— in a festive and cheery block aptly titled the ‘Merry & Bright Star’ block.

Shop Hop Block AMB

This free pattern block’s inspiration comes from a quilt made by talented local quilter/pattern designer, Anita Peluso of Bloomin’ Workshop (also known as Ms. Washington State during the AMB Blog Tour Road Trip this past summer).  Anita made this gorgeous quilt shown in the pics below from AMB solids in the red-cream-white color way.  The Feathered Star quilt pattern she used is from none other than one of Clothworks’ talented fabric designers, Marsha McCloskey, renowned for her pattern drafting ingenuity in the complex Feathered Star quilt block designs.  As you can tell from comparing it to the inspiration, the free pattern block for the Shop Hop is a simplified version which still maintains the bold, holiday-inspired color combo of red & white!

Clothworks is Moving (& having a GINORMOUS Sale)!!

Moving Pic

Yep, you read that right!  Clothworks Headquarters will be moving at the end of 2014!  We’ve enjoyed several wonderful years at our warehouse in the beautiful Georgetown district of Seattle, WA.  Our current location was a prime spot for witnessing some historical events- the maiden voyage of Boeing’s Dreamliner, the Blue Angels magnificent take-off & landing flights, and every now & then catching a glimpse of someone famous (did FLOTUS just wave at us?).  Besides experiencing all of those memorable events here, one recent event in the history of Clothworks made its mark in this warehouse, and that would be the launch of American Made Brands!  With the release of American Made Brand solid fabrics, we have been excited to offer a quilting cotton that is strictly made here in the USA:  never leaving our shores, from farm to fabric in an array of vibrant colors!

Since the release of American Made Brand solid fabrics, our warehouse has gotten just a bit too cozy for our liking, and now it’s time we move on!  Don’t worry, we aren’t going too far– just across town. At the end of December we’ll head WEST to our new home, a warehouse that will accommodate our growing needs, and kick off the new year in our new digs!

But until then….

We are in preparation mode for the BIG MOVE!  As much as we love our fabric, we just can’t take it all to our new warehouse.  So I guess that means we need to throw a SALE for our wholesale customers!!

In honor of our BIG MOVE, The Holidays, and Year- End, we’re offering a promotion to our wholesale accounts.  Some of you might have seen the email that went out–  Place your orders now through Friday, December 19th to have them shipped now through December 19th and you may be lucky enough to enjoy some screaming deals on fabric (how does an additional 50 cents off promo pricing sound to you?!!)  Act Fast!!  Make your MOVE quickly before this special promo ends after December 19th when sale prices no longer receive the additional discount!
