American Made Brand, the newest division of Clothworks, featuring cotton solids made in the USA, was a big hit at last week’s QuiltCon in Austin, TX! Our team enjoyed meeting all of the lovely folks interested in the AMB solids during the show that caters to the modern quilting crowd. Maybe it was the striking modern quilts made up in AMB solids displayed in our booth, or the assortment of 62 solid colors in bright, vibrant hues that caught the eyes of the show attendees. Once they examined the quality of the AMB cotton solids- fabric with a firm, yet soft hand– this most certainly got them hooked! And as they soon discovered that this fantastic product is grown & made right here in the United States, we quickly gained an enthusiastic & dedicated following!! By the end of QuiltCon, we were running out of our goodie samples!!!
American Made Brand was also excited to participate in the QuiltCon Quilt Show as a proud sponsor of one of the show categories. We sponsored the Minimalist Design Category, one of seven categories featured in the juried quilt show at QuiltCon. Two winners were chosen in this category as their quilts exemplified simple design with stunning visual impact. Congratulations to the winners, just look at their beautiful work below!!
1st Place Winner: “Breathe” by Leanne Chahley of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and member of the Edmonton Modern Quilt Guild
2nd Place Winner: “Ascend” by Nicole Neblett of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and member of the Triangle Modern Quilt Guild.
Brrrrrrr!!!! If you’re shivering away in your neck of the woods right now, here’s a super warm & fuzzy quilt to cuddle up in! The simple block design of the Cuddle Me Lux quilt, by Lorrie Franz, uses fabric from the first Clothworks release of Guess How Much I Love You with the addition of the Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle fabric, also released by Clothworks. What’s unique about this quilt design is the use of the Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle fabric. With its luxurious pile in the allover print of the adorable bunnies from the Guess How Much I Love You book illustrated by Anita Jeram, this fabric adds some serious soft-to-the-touch texture to this cute quilt!
The Cuddle Me Lux quilt featured on page 86 of Fon’s & Porter’s Easy Quilts Spring 2015 is just one of the many simple quilt projects featured in this magazine, out now on news stands. Cuddle Me Lux is a fairly easy pattern that showcases the bunny rabbits in the Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle fabric using some strategic fussy-cutting to make panel blocks. If you’re snowed in and can’t get to your favorite local quilt shop, you can purchase the digital download of the pattern here at this link, from the comfort of your home.
Be sure to check your local quilt shop for the Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle, that is, after the thaw. And if you’re lucky, you might still be able to find some of the first release of Guess How Much I Love You by Clothworks. If you weren’t as quick as the hare to snag it, have no fear– Clothworks is releasing an updated version due out at your local quilt shop sometime this summer (well after the winter thaw) called Guess How Much I Love You II .

Do you recognize the fabric in these charming zip pouch bags? If you’ve hit a mental roadblock, it could be that there’s a Detour Ahead….or wait a minute– that would be the name of this fabric collection released by Clothworks, and the second collection for designer Eugene Smith. Spotted at a quilt retreat last weekend from our friends at the Busy Bee Quilters Guild, a local quilt guild based north of Seattle in Snohomish,WA, these bags were part of a raffle. Lucky for the person who won these- as they’d make the perfect pouches to carry sundries, or anything you need for your on-the-go lifestyle!
And do you recognize these fabrics below in the Shop Hop Block by Hollyhill QS??!! How genius to use ClothworksLaurel Burch Basic glitter for the frosty icing on the cupcake?!!!! (Complete with sprinkled seed beads too!!!) So sweet……I think I can almost taste it!

Oooo! I just had to post this *AMAZING* Show & Tell that our talented quilter friend, Patty, brought into the office the other day. This stunning flower is all applique using American Made Brand solids by Clothworks! Patty had just returned from the ‘Quilting in the Desert’ retreat in Arizona, and came back with this dazzling beginning of a beautiful applique quilt! Lucky Patty scored a spot in the 5 day retreat/workshop taught by the brilliant quilt & fabric artist, Jane Sassaman.
In her workshop, Jane Sassaman instructed the students on how to create an ‘abstract floral’ applique design using inspiration from nature. See the resemblance to the chrysanthemum pictured above?
I’d say Patty is off to a fab start with this project! She really enjoyed working with AMB solids in this applique project and commented on how the fabric had a wonderful hand. I couldn’t agree more with her, but as I admire this gorgeous design, I’m amazed by how vibrant the colors of American Made Brand solids are, too! With clear, bright colors like these found in the AMB assortment, they really serve this graphic floral motif very well and make it pop! Don’t you just love the fiery oranges, yellows, and reds in this?
Way to go, Patty! I love where this project is going and can’t wait to see the final result!
