Show & Tell: American Made Brand Pieced Triangle Quilt

Patty's triangle quilt

Another fun ‘show & tell’ from our friend, Patty, who has been quite prolific with her sewing projects lately!  Although it’s still a work in progress, this quilt top with the equilateral triangle piecing already has uttered a few ‘oohs & ahhs’ around the office, here.  Patty’s smart use of brights, pastels, and jewel tones from the American Made Brand solid fabric palette really make this quilt a stand out!  With the dark grey sashing, the multi-color triangle piecing really pops and almost takes on the look of a stained glass window.  I can’t wait to see the finished project!

And speaking of American Made Brand….

As we wrap up 2015, we look ahead to 2016, with the introduction of 13 new colors into the American Made Brand fabric palette.  That means there will be 75 colors total to choose from-  brights, neutrals, pastels, dark tones, and some muted tones added into the mix!

Stay posted in the New Year for more American Made Brand Solid updates and Here’s to a Happy 2016!

Show & Tell: Laurel Burch Dogs & Doggies Travel Bag

LB Dogs & Doggies Bag zipped up

As many people are making their way to visit friends and family during the holidays, here’s some fantastic inspiration to make a functional & spiffy travel pouch on your next travel occasion.  Our friend Patty made this travel tote using the recent Clothworks release, a Laurel Burch fabric line called Dogs & Doggies.

Patty found this nifty accessory bag pattern on Craftsy–  the ‘Sew Together Bag’ by SewDemented.  And as you’ll see in the pictures below, with all of its hidden zippered pockets in the interior, this bag will keep all of your bits and bobs ‘sew together’!

Amazing how many little pockets and pouches are found inside this handy little bag!

Fun Friday Show & Tell

kathleen quilt 3

Although it’s a work in progress, I had to share this fun Show & Tell that our dear friend Kathleen, former Clothworks employee & talented quilter extraordinaire, is creating!  Earlier this year, Kathleen was lucky to have taken a class from the fabulous art quilter, Freddy Moran.  If you’re not familiar with Freddy Moran’s work, judging by the pictures of Kathleen’s project, you can see that her style of quilting is eclectic and does not seem to follow any ‘rules’. No regard for straight seams, raw edges on appliques, and wild color combinations are just a few of the criteria that make up Freddy Moran’s rebellious approach to creating art quilts.

Kathleen quilt 1As demonstrated in Kathleen’s project, the backgrounds in Freddy Moran’s art quilts are typically comprised of a patchwork of different monochromatic black & white printed fabrics.  I spy some black & white Clothworks fabrics from the Mojito by Skipping Stones Studio & the organic Sweet Tweets by Penguin & Fish collections.  In typical Freddy Moran style, a collage of fussy cut images clipped from various fabrics, here being a sea creature theme, are appliqued on top of the black & white pieced background.  Do you recognize the seaweed, fish, and mermaid cut from Laurel Burch fabrics in Kathleen’s project?  kathleen quilt 4

The result….a ‘psychedelic ocean scene’ art quilt!

I couldn’t find a website for Freddy Moran, but doing a search on the internet led me to a few quilting books penned by her, offered for sale on Amazon , perfect to put on your holiday wishlist ;).

And for more inspiration, just google ‘Freddy Moran’ and view the image results, and you’ll be blown away by the artistic intensity of her work!

As we venture into the month of December, the Holidays are upon us in full gear!  What’s meant to be a festive, joyous time to celebrate with friends & family can sometimes become bogged down with stress.  With cookie bake-offs, meal-planning, marathon sewing sessions making handmade gifts, cyber deal shopping, and decking the halls with boughs of holly and everything else, sometimes the madness of the Holidays can be overwhelming!  If you’re needing a time-out to re-focus, beloved Clothworks fabric designer & talented illustrator, Sue Zipkin, has released some coloring artwork that’s on trend with the adult coloring book craze.  In an effort to use art therapy in her own healing, Sue began illustrating beautiful drawings to take her mind off the pressures of life.  As she amassed a collection of drawings, she decided it was time to set up an etsy shop to sell these illustrations so that others could enjoy the relaxing benefits of ‘coloring with zip‘ as her tagline suggests.  Head to her etsy shop, Sue Zipkin Shop, to peruse the beautiful illustrations for sale to be downloaded.  And check out on Sue’s blog to find the free download of the snowman illustration as shown above.  This looks like it can be very addictive!

Be sure to keep an eye out at your local quilt shop for the upcoming collection, Daisy Dance designed by Sue Zipkin, to be released early next year by Clothworks.
