Calling all animal-lovers, sewists, and crafters, alike!  The Pet Postcard Project is seeking donations for pet-themed postcards made with fabric to be sold at the upcoming International Quilt Festival in Chicago, April 7th-9th, 2016.  Postcards will be sold for $20 at Festival, with all proceeds going to PAWS Chicago, the largest no-kill animal rescue in the Midwest.

The Pet Postcard Project was started by Weeks Ringle & Bill Kerr, owners/designers of Modern Quilt Studio, in an effort to raise money to benefit homeless pets.  Being that they are so crafty and organized, they have devoted an entire blog to the Pet Postcard Project, showing pet postcards in progress and tutorials to help inspire you.

Now for the details–

  •  Create as many Pet Postcards as you wish to donate!
  •  Pet Postcards must be no larger than 5″ x 7″
  •  Pet Postcards can be made from any number of techniques and materials, as long as they include some fabric in the design
  •  Most importantly, Pet Postcards must appeal to pet lovers
  •  Send your completed Pet Postcards in an envelope (preferably a padded envelope), postmarked by March 15, 2016 to the following address:

Winning Colors: Tiny Quilt Challenge Junior Keeps on Winning!

tiny quilt challenge quiltcon winner

Had to share this wonderful American Made Brand show and tell with everyone!  Autumn, one of our Junior Division winners in last year’s Tiny Quilt Challenge, has just placed 2nd at a show at Quiltcon with this gorgeous quilt here!  Autumn was the 3rd place winner in the Junior Division of the Tiny Quilt Challenge with her Wacky Spool quilt made from American Made Brand. We rewarded her with fat quarters of American Made Brand in 31 gorgeous colors.  From there, Autumn made this stunning quilt pictured here, mixing in some other printed fabrics with her AMB winnings.  Some might call it luck, but I’d say this young quilter is off to a strong start with her quilting talents!  A big round of applause to Autumn for winning 2nd place with this fantastic quilt!!!  Congratulations and keep up the wonderful work!

The newest issue of American Patchwork & Quilting® April 2016 has a version of a beautiful quilt called Star-Crossed Quilt by Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts.  Quilt tester Laura Boehnke used fabric designer Marsha McCloskey’s most recent Clothworks fabric release, Chocolate and Cherry, to create her version.  I’d say this is a match ‘written in the stars’, as the traditional quilt design with star blocks perfectly compliments Marsha’s vintage romantic floral collection, Chocolate and Cherry.  Be sure to stop by your local quilt shop to snag some yardage of this fabric collection before it’s gone for good.  Marsha’s beautiful fabric designs tend to sell out rather quickly.  For your assistance, follow this link to see a list of shops that carry this collection.

Also be sure to pick up a copy of the American Patchwork & Quilting® April 2016 magazine at your local quilt shop or favorite news stand.  This edition is available through April 5, 2016.  And head to All People Quilt to find the pattern, too.

American Made Brand used in Quilts to honor Firefighters

Our local news affiliate here in Seattle, WA shared this wonderful story about a lovely group of quilters donating their time & talent on a special charity quilt project.  The Friday Friends Quilters group (part of the local Tri-City Quilters’ Guild) are making charity quilts for an injured firefighter and families of the fallen firefighters who bravely battled the forest fires last summer in Twisp, WA.  Great to see American Made Brand used in these very special quilts.  Read more about this heart-warming story and view pictures here at the KOMO news website.
