American Made Mystery BOM Quilt- Kit Guides

We’ve set off on the first week of our journey to discover ‘Our Land’– the American Made Brand Mystery Block of the Month Quilt.  So far, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback and some questions.  Several shops have expressed an interest in promoting the American Made Brand Mystery BOM in their stores as a quilt-a-long.  To aid you in planning out what AMB solid cottons are needed for each of the charity quilt versions of the AMB Mystery Quilt, we’ve created some handy-dandy kit guides.

Download the kit matrix for the Quilts for Kids version here.

Download the kit matric for the Quilts of Valor version here.

Also, for those of you who do not use Instagram, but would like to participate in the quilt-a-long for the AMB Mystery Quilt, please post your images in the comments section of the blog post for that Block of the Month.

Thank you for your interest, support, and wonderful feedback!  We look forward to seeing your beautiful blocks!

  1. You need to provide total yardage on each specific fabrics so that it would be much easier to shop for all the fabrics. Indicating what is needed month by month does not help with having to use a calculator. 😦

    • Hi Brenda,
thank you for your feedback. Scroll down to the bottom of the kit guide to see total yardage needed for 40 kits. One full bolt is 15 yards. So, just divide 15 yds by 40 when one bolt is called for. Some colors use .375 yds as you’ll notice when you do the math. Thanks for participating! 🙂

    • Hi Tabatha,
It’s not necessary to use solids, but in promotion of American Made Brand and with our support of the charities, Quilts for Kids and Quilts of Valor, we chose to use solids for this quilt.

  2. I can’t seem to find any place where it states how long this BOM will last. 6 months? 12? Just trying to plan ahead. (love the first block, by the way)

    • Hi Sherryl,
The Kit Guides show that this block will last 9 months + an additional month to add the borders. Starting this month in May, with the last block featured in January and borders in February. Thanks! 🙂

      • Thanks for the quick response Stephanie. Since I didn’t purchase a kit, I didn’t think to open the Kit Guide! Now I know. Again – thanks for your time and for this great BOM.

      • Hi Sherryl,
You’re most welcome. Please note, this is a mystery quilt and each block will be revealed for each month. No kits have been made for this quilt, yet, as the entire quilt has not been revealed yet. We are posting these kit guides to help stores and customers plan for the fabrics to be used in the AMB Mystery Quilts– this is the only information that we can reveal right now about the entire quilt. The rest will be a mystery…so check back each month and week here on the Works to see a new block posted! 🙂

  3. How doe this help the charities? Do we donate our quilts? Does a portion of our AMB purchases go to the charity? How about if we purchase other fabric by clothworks, will that support the charity?I’m sorry if I missed this information elsewhere.

    • Hi Benita- Yes, you may donate your quilts to the chosen charities that we are supporting in conjunction with the AMB Mystery BOM Quilts. We are promoting American Made Brand solid cottons, so that is why they are used in the quilts that we plan to give to the 2 charities we are supporting for this quilt challenge- Quilts for Kids and Quilts of Valor. No proceeds from fabric sales go to the charities, just quilt donations. You may use other fabric if you like, and still donate to these charities. We appreciate your support! 🙂

  4. Looking forward to the mystery each month. However, I’m confused about the templates. The 12 x 12 finished should have 1/4 inch seams added to each shape? Thank you. Clara

    • Hi, So happy to hear your interest in the AMB Mystery Quilt Blocks! The templates include 1/4″ seam allowances. No need to add those onto the shapes. Hope this makes sense. thank you 🙂

      • Hello, Stephanie.
I visited my local quilt shop, Karen’s in Sequim WA, and my confusion was cleared when Karen showed me that the templates reversed fit the corresponding section of the 12 x 12 finished pages. Now I’m on track and will complete the block using QFK fabrics. Whew!

      • That’s wonderful! So glad to hear that you went to your LQS for advice on this- smart idea! Great to hear you are on track to finish the block using QFK fabrics. Happy Sewing 🙂
