Thanksgiving draws near, your corn-themed Mystery block is done. (Or at least cut out. OK, planned?) So let’s take a little break from sewing and talk recipes! Does all-American corn make it onto your Thanksgiving table? Creamed corn, cornbread stuffing, corn relish. Corn brings such warmth to the table with its sunny color and sweet flavor. I think it deserves a spot! If you don’t have a traditional family recipe why not try out one of these unique ideas from fun blog The Kitchn. Or hit up Pinterest for even more options. Let us know how your recipe turns out!

AMB Mystery BOM Quilt Block 7- Growing Season: Quilts of Valor Foundation

In honor of our nation’s veterans, we’ve dedicated this Mystery Block challenge in part to the Quilts of Valor foundation. Founder Catherine Roberts began QOV while her son was deployed in Iraq in 2003. She dreamed one night of a soldier deep in despair who receives comfort from a quilt, and immediately went to work turning that dream into reality. She organized volunteers to piece and quilt. They shared her vision that quilts made for veterans should not be shoddy “charity quilts” but beautiful gifts of thanks and comfort. As of September this year, 145,572 service members and veterans have received quilts!
To support this wonderful cause, we designed a version of the Mystery Quilt that will meet QOV size guidelines. We will post the finishing instructions for this version, which you can make in any colors you choose, at the end of the challenge next February. We hope some of our quilters will choose to donate their quilts! Even if you’d like to hold onto your Mystery Block quilt or donate it to another cause, please consider the QOV mission for your next charitable quilting project! Please visit the QOV website to find out the specifics of donating your quilt, including the required label designating it a Quilt of Valor.

Fun Friday Show & Tell: Wild Figs Patchwork Tote

wild-figs-toteHalloween has come and gone, the election is over, and now we can look forward to the holidays.  The trees have lost their leaves and the ground is scattered with mounds of burnt oranges, rusty reds, and yellow ochres.  This must mean one thing….Autumn has arrived!

One of our multi-talented employees here at the Works, Debbie from Shipping., brought in this gorgeous patchwork totebag and I just had to share it with you.   Using fabrics from an older Clothworks release, the autumn-inspired Wild Figs by Karen Roti, Debbie churned out this beautiful bag in just one weekend!go-everywhere-bag-collageFlipping through an old edition of Fons & Porter’s Quilting Quickly from spring 2015, Debbie spotted the Go Everywhere Bag project and was inspired to create.  The magazine may be a back issue, but thank Fons & Porter for archiving it on their website here.  Follow this link for to download the pattern, and better yet, watch the free video tutorial for helpful construction tips!

Nice Work, Debbie!  Thank you for sharing.

Here’s to an inspirational autumn weekend ~~~ Happy Sewing!

American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 7- Growing Season

Ancient cultures in our land celebrated corn, as did our European immigrant ancestors. It has earned its place on many a Thanksgiving table. Not only delicious, but also a beautiful plant, it takes pride of place on our AMB Mystery Block quilt as well. As you plan your Block 7, entitled “Growing Season”, don’t forget that corn comes in many colors in addition to the traditional yellow highlighted here. What shades will you choose?
