AMB Mystery BOM Quilt: Correction to QOV Finishing Instructions

blog_final

Thank you to all the quilters out there who have been quilting along and sharing images of your finished blocks for the AMB Mystery Block of the Month Quilt called ‘Our Land’.  Now that the BOM series has completed, we’ve received some feedback on the quilt finishing portion.

For the Quilts of Valor version, a cutting error was found on the first page of the finishing instructions under QOV Border Stars. In the cutting instructions for the colors marked as ‘C’, please cut 2″ squares, not 2 ½” squares as previously listed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration that this may have caused.

Follow this link for the updated Quilts of Valor finishing instructions.

The QOV finishing instructions have also been updated in the previous blog post here.

We’d love to see how you finish your AMB Mystery Quilt!  Please share pics of your finished quilts on Instagram with the tag #AMBMystery or email info at Clothworks dot com.

Fun Friday Show & Tell: Guess How Much I Love You III Quilt

debbie-with-ghmily3-quilt

Guess How Much I Love You III, the latest Clothworks release featuring the whimsical rabbits by children’s book illustrator Anita Jeram, has just delivered to our quilt shops.  Our multi-talented Clothworks employee & Shipper Extraordinaire, Debbie, had a project in mind when she spotted the new fabric in our warehouse and immediately got to work.  In just a few days, Debbie whipped up this sweet baby quilt!

ghmily3-debbie-quiltSix fat quarters from the GHMILY3 line were used to make the half square triangles, with additional border fabric and a soft flannel print for backing & binding.  Debbie followed this quick & easy beginner level quilt tutorial, and away she went– piecing and quilting her project on her home sewing machine!  A family member due with her first child will be the lucky recipient of this quilt.  Nice work and thanks for sharing, Debbie!

Be sure to stock up on the new Guess How Much I Love You III collection before it sells out.  Find a local quilt shop by visiting our online store directory.

Happy Sewing!

blog_finalNow that all 9 blocks of the Our Land American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt have been revealed, it’s time to put them all together!

When we launched the AMB Mystery BOM series last spring, we gave suggestions for 2 unique color schemes using American Made Brand solid fabrics for piecing the blocks.  As Clothworks & American Made Brand are proud supporters of 2 charities, Quilts of Valor and Quilts for Kids, Inc., we thought the AMB Mystery Quilt was a perfect opportunity to make a quilt for each charity.

It’s a good thing the Lean Toward the Sun block falls in January when so many of us can use a little reminder that sunny summer weather will come again. Why not add a little more sunshine to your winter by learning to crochet some sunflowers? Make one to embellish your quilt, or make a whole bouquet! There are about as many methods and styles as there are real sunflowers in a Kansas field in July. Here’s a roundup to get you started with 15 free patterns from around the Web.

American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 9- Lean Toward the Sun: Roasted Sunchoke Recipe

Did you know that the Sunchoke, also known as the Jerusalem Artichoke, is a species of sunflower native to the United States and North America?  The flowers resemble a garden sunflower, while the tuber is used as a root vegetable … and they’re in season right now!  Look for them in your local health food store.  Their flavor is slightly nutty and sweet and they are nutritious, too. Rich in minerals such as potassium, try this roasted sunchoke recipe with some garlic, olive oil, and seasoning to add something different to your meal repertoire!

Or wash well and slice for a crunchy raw addition to your next salad!

American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 9- Lean Toward the Sun

blog_9

It’s the dawning of a new year and although the chill of Winter may have you shivering, perhaps it’s a good time to warm up and Lean Toward the Sun with Block 9, the final block in our AMB Mystery Block of the Month!   As we greet the brand new year ahead with optimism, just as the mighty Sunflower in your garden tilts toward the warmth and radiance of the sun, may this serve as a reminder to look on the bright side and head towards the light.  If you are following along with either of our colorways, the Quilts for Kids version is lighter in color, picking up on the cheeriness of a springtime palette, while the Quilts of Valor version displays the rich tones of a late summer, early autumn palette. We can’t wait to see what you choose to do with your block!

Fun Friday Show & Tell: Wild Figs Patchwork Tote

wild-figs-toteHalloween has come and gone, the election is over, and now we can look forward to the holidays.  The trees have lost their leaves and the ground is scattered with mounds of burnt oranges, rusty reds, and yellow ochres.  This must mean one thing….Autumn has arrived!

One of our multi-talented employees here at the Works, Debbie from Shipping., brought in this gorgeous patchwork totebag and I just had to share it with you.   Using fabrics from an older Clothworks release, the autumn-inspired Wild Figs by Karen Roti, Debbie churned out this beautiful bag in just one weekend!go-everywhere-bag-collageFlipping through an old edition of Fons & Porter’s Quilting Quickly from spring 2015, Debbie spotted the Go Everywhere Bag project and was inspired to create.  The magazine may be a back issue, but thank Fons & Porter for archiving it on their website here.  Follow this link for to download the pattern, and better yet, watch the free video tutorial for helpful construction tips!

Nice Work, Debbie!  Thank you for sharing.

Here’s to an inspirational autumn weekend ~~~ Happy Sewing!
