Fun Friday: A Very Gifted Block (Pre-Cut Friendly, too)!

Tina's Gift Box Block

One of our talented quilting friends, Tina, stopped by the other day to share her current project with us, made with Clothworks fabric, of course!  Check out this darling ‘Pretty Package’ Block she pieced together using the sweet snowman collection released last year by Clothworks called Creature Comforts by designer Barb Tourtillotte.  This is Tina’s contribution to a block exchange. Pretty nifty, eh?!  I also love how she set off her block using the white tonal Impressions Sprig fabric by Clothworks, too!!

package block quilt ufo TinaLooks like Tina has been quilting up a storm, this summer.  She also shared this image of a quilt top pieced with modified ‘Pretty Package’ Blocks.  This was an old UFO that has resurfaced for Tina.  She added some borders and hopes to complete it soon.  Recognize that fabric?  The multicolor Christmas tree print used in the outer border is from the new holiday-inspired Laurel Burch collection called Enchantment, recently released by Clothworks.  It surprisingly works very well in tying together this eclectic mix of holiday prints.  Nice work, Tina!

For those interested in making their own ‘Pretty Package’ Block, there’s a wonderful video tutorial found here on youtube.  Not only is this block super cute, but it’s pre-cut friendly, too (perfect for 5″ and 10″ squares)!

And be sure to head to your LQS to stock up on Clothworks holiday fabrics (Frosty Fun, 25 Days of Christmas, Christmas Wishes, and Enchantment to name a few), because pretty soon they will be here before you know it!

Happy Sewing!

Show & Tell: Some Inspiration for the Weekend

Faithfully Yours- Tina

Our quilting friend, Tina, emailed this stunning pic of one of her recent creations using the new collection from Clothworks by Barb Tourtillotte called Faithfully Yours!  Not only did Tina’s email brighten my day, but with the vibrant colors, gorgeous flowers, and inspirational sayings in the fabric prints in this collection, it gives me faith that Spring is just around the corner!

Tina followed no pattern to create this small pieced quilt top.  She simply added one of the coordinating tonal prints in Faithfully Yours for the sashing around the block print blocks, then added two borders.  Do you notice the yellow inner border fabric?  I love how Tina used the paw prints from Dogs & Doggies by Laurel Burch.  It works very nicely with the bright palette in the Faithfully Yours collection!

Well done, Tina!  Thank you for sharing your project with us.  Here’s hoping you feel sew inspired to create.  Head to this link to find a local quilt shop that stocks Faithfully Yours today.

Show & Tell: Laurel Burch Dogs & Doggies Travel Bag

LB Dogs & Doggies Bag zipped up

As many people are making their way to visit friends and family during the holidays, here’s some fantastic inspiration to make a functional & spiffy travel pouch on your next travel occasion.  Our friend Patty made this travel tote using the recent Clothworks release, a Laurel Burch fabric line called Dogs & Doggies.

Patty found this nifty accessory bag pattern on Craftsy–  the ‘Sew Together Bag’ by SewDemented.  And as you’ll see in the pictures below, with all of its hidden zippered pockets in the interior, this bag will keep all of your bits and bobs ‘sew together’!

‘Fractured Kaleidoscope’ is Vibrant in Laurel Burch Basics!

front cover

We’re thrilled to see this gorgeous quilt made in Laurel Burch Basics grace the cover of the January 2016 edition of American Quilter Magazine!  In her quilt entitled, ‘Fractured Kaleidoscope’, designer Emily Breclaw made gorgeous use of the range of vibrant basic fabrics that Clothworks carries under the Laurel Burch line.  You might even remember Emily from the AMB Blog Hop tour— she was our Texas representative!

Head to your favorite newsstand to pick up an issue of American Quilter Magazine, Jan. 2016 edition, to see how to make this brilliant quilt.  I’m sure there are quite a few Laurel Burch fans out there that are collecting a stack of her basics in their stashes that would be put to good use in this quilting!  If you’re more of the digital type, you can even purchase the magazine online.  And if you don’t have the time to sift through your stash, it appears there’s a ‘Fractured Kaleidoscope’ kit sold online, too.  Make sure to stop by designer Emily Breclaw’s inspiration site, The Caffeinated Quilter, to see what other fun creations she has cooked up, too!

Inspiring Laurel Burch Dogs and Doggies!

Here’s some inspiration to brighten your day!  One of our talented customers sent in these pictures the other day showing off the fruits of her labor after receiving the new Laurel Burch release by Clothworks called Dogs and Doggies!  Kris Daly, owner, talented quilter, and artist of Kris Quilts and Crafts in Oregon, was so overjoyed after receiving her shipment, she proceeded to spend the next 12 hours working nonstop to produce these beautiful pillows!!

Clothworks Open House: A Success!

open house balloons

If you’ve been following us here at the Works, you may have seen that we made a big move recently.  After months of planning, preparation, and clean-up, we moved into our new location just across town at the beginning of the new year.  Having had a few months to settle into our new digs, it was about time that we host an official Open House, welcoming our beloved customers to our new location in Seattle.  If you made it out to see us at the Clothworks Open House last Thursday and Friday, we greatly appreciate having you come out to see the new warehouse set-up!

open house goodies

Not only did we entice our customers to attend the Open House with food (did I mention the pork & chicken sliders and chocolate brownies??), but we provided each of our customers with complimentary sample squares of our new cotton solid collection, the American Made Brand fabrics, pictured in the basket above, and also ran a ‘Winter’s End Sale’ with some screamin’ deals!!  No wonder we had some out-of-state folks make the trek up to Seattle to take advantage of the promos!

Aurifil thread, Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle fabric, American Made Brand Cotton solids, as well as AMB color cards & totebags, and Cut Goods were just a few of the featured items on promo during our Open House, besides the other stock listed in our sale catalog.

In case you missed the Open House, here are a few pics of our new warehouse below:

The vaulted ceilings in our new warehouse provice ample space to display the beautiful quilts made from our fabrics, constructed by our talented team of sample-makers!

Our new warehouse accommodates the expanding fabric collections we offer, as well as providing our wholesale customers with a user-friendly shopping experience.  With neatly marked shelves, wider aisles, and lots of light, it’s no wonder our wholesale customers lingered a bit longer to stock up on tons of fabric!

Beth- fabric in the trunk

The Clothworks crew had a lot of fun hosting the Open House last week! As we mingled with our customers, it was fun to meet some new folks and re-connect with our long-time, dedicated ones.  It appeared that our customers enjoyed the Open House, too!  So much so, that they wanted to climb in the trunk of their car to be with their fabric! 🙂

Embracing Inspiration: It’s found in the Bag!

Bag Collage

I wish I could take credit for putting together this adorable bag sample as pictured here!  Cindy from Kingston Quilt Shop, a local quilt shop in the area, put her ‘sewing goddess’ skills to good use and created this gorgeous sample made from the newest Laurel Burch release, Embracing Horses by Clothworks.  Her thoughtful pairing of fabrics- the teal batik from Clothworks Fresh Batik Minerals collection combined with the prints from Embracing Horses, really are quite stunning!  The horses almost take on a ‘camouflage’ look if you blur your eyes a little.

Cindy used the Sweet Pea Everday Totebag pattern by Kati Cupcake Patterns to create her sample version.

This sweet little pattern transcends into something chic when it’s made up in a sophisticated fabric such as the jewel-toned teal colorway of Laurel Burch’s Embracing Horses!  And the details really make it!!  Just take a look at the close-up pic below.  Cindy is quite proud of the fabric covered button so cleverly fussy-cut to show the horse’s cute face:

Well done, Cindy!!  Every bit of this bag sample is beautiful, right down to the stitching!  After admiring your gorgeous work, I’m inspired to create!

What about you?  Have you seen any samples lately in your LQS (local quilt shop) that have moved you to create?  We’d love to know!

Or maybe you’re a local quilt shop that has some fun show and tell to share with us!  Send your pics to stephanie at clothworks dot com!

Cat Fancy: Laurel Burch Panel is in the Bag!

Front of cat purse

Here’s some fun for your Friday!  Pat, who works in accounting, has a very crafty friend named Linda who made this adorable little purse as a gift to her.  Do you recognize that pretty fabric?  None other than Laurel Burch could create such detailed depictions of kitty cats!!  The block print (shown below) from last year’s Clothworks release, Fabulous Felines by Laurel Burch, was utilized quite well for this simple clutch purse design, don’t you think?

Linda’s inspiration for this purse came from the book, Handbags 2 Designer Knockoffs, a collaboration written by Eileen Roche and Nancy Zieman.  Though the book highlights Eileen Roche’s stunning embroidery techniques as a way of embellishing simple handbag silhouettes to create sophisticated, designer-worthy looks, I love how Pat’s friend Linda used Laurel Burch’s detailed fabric print to supe up this little handbag.  Do head over to Nancy Zieman’s blog, which features wonderful pictorial instructions on how to create this ‘personalized clutch’ design!

With no detail left out in the making of this sweet little purse, I’m loving how Linda included this cute embroidery design depicting a clutch purse on the inside lining of the bag:

The flip side of the clutch’s exterior is just as darling, too!  Here’s another design found on the block print from Fabulous Felines:

A Big Thanks to Pat for bringing in her lovely purse & to Linda for allowing me to post this creation here on the Works!  TGIF, everyone!!!  Perhaps this will inspire you in your weekend sewing pursuits.
