American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 9- Lean Toward the Sun: Roasted Sunchoke Recipe

Did you know that the Sunchoke, also known as the Jerusalem Artichoke, is a species of sunflower native to the United States and North America?  The flowers resemble a garden sunflower, while the tuber is used as a root vegetable … and they’re in season right now!  Look for them in your local health food store.  Their flavor is slightly nutty and sweet and they are nutritious, too. Rich in minerals such as potassium, try this roasted sunchoke recipe with some garlic, olive oil, and seasoning to add something different to your meal repertoire!

Or wash well and slice for a crunchy raw addition to your next salad!

American Made Brand Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 9- Lean Toward the Sun

blog_9

It’s the dawning of a new year and although the chill of Winter may have you shivering, perhaps it’s a good time to warm up and Lean Toward the Sun with Block 9, the final block in our AMB Mystery Block of the Month!   As we greet the brand new year ahead with optimism, just as the mighty Sunflower in your garden tilts toward the warmth and radiance of the sun, may this serve as a reminder to look on the bright side and head towards the light.  If you are following along with either of our colorways, the Quilts for Kids version is lighter in color, picking up on the cheeriness of a springtime palette, while the Quilts of Valor version displays the rich tones of a late summer, early autumn palette. We can’t wait to see what you choose to do with your block!

AMB Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 8-Leaves of Change: Made in America Month

madeinamericamonth

Welcome to another AMB Mystery Block Monday! Today we’ll take a little break from the quilting and crafting and reflect on the American Made aspect of this project, because all across our land December is the official Made in America month. What better way to celebrate than by making something yourself out of fabric that is not just made, but even grown in the USA? Maybe you can use the scraps from your mystery quilt for a few last-minute stocking stuffers or hostess gifts? Or purchase AMB yardage and precuts as gifts for your quilting friends? It’s a great time of year to look for the American-made label as you shop for holiday gifts. And for those organized folks who have been all done shopping for a month already? How about a New Year’s resolution to support American industry in the coming year?

We hope your Leaves of Change block is going well, and don’t forget to take a picture to send us for the block roundup at month’s end.

AMB Mystery BOM Quilt: Block 8-Leaves of Change: Crafting with Leaves

leaves-of-change

Pinecone Fairy Ornament, photo courtesy of Lucinda Macy of www.willodel.com

This month’s block is all about leaves … how about we “leaf” sewing behind for a bit and explore some holiday-appropriate crafts? We’re in love with these adorable fairies from a blogger based in the Pacific Northwest – Lucinda Macy of Willodel.  Who knew a pine cone, some fall leaves and a couple wooden beads could transform into such a charming tree ornament? And check out these gorgeously-transformed leaves from Kristen Bach featured on blablakids! What an amazing project. With a selection of bright and metallic paints even a toddler could achieve spectacular results. These look gorgeous as standalone ornaments, or could be strung together to make a beautiful bunting or garland. If magnolias are not abundant in your area, other sturdy leaves such as rhododendron would work as well.
