Show & Tell: Craft Day Fun with Clothworks fabrics!

Camper Applique

I just had to share this fun show & tell piece with you today.  Debbie, Shipper Extraordinaire here at Clothworks, had some fun putting together this applique piece during a recent crafternoon session.  The name of the pink daisy dot fabric escapes me, but I do recall that being an older Clothworks release that Debbie dug out of her stash.  I adore how she used this print in her camper applique, as well as the other shades of pink fabrics.  They lend a ‘girly’ look to this scene.  The batiks from Clothworks Mineral Batiks line work perfectly as background prints for the sky and grassy ground- giving a textured feeling.

The Fresh Batik Mineral Batik fabrics are one of the many collections that Clothworks carries in their Basic range of fabrics.  Below are just a few colors showing off the assortment of rich colors and lovely watercolor textures in these soft-handed batik tonals!  Be sure to visit your local quilt shop to check them out!

And if you’re curious about that cute Camper applique design, Debbie followed a block from Amy Bradley DesignsCampers Quilt Pattern‘.

I’m anxious to see what she continues to make in this selection of camper applique designs.  After seeing how her first block turned out, it sounds as if Debbie has inspired her daughter to create her own version, too!  Hope we’ve lent some inspiration to your day, too!

On the Road Again: AMB on Tour at Upcoming Quilt Festivals!

American Made Brand fabrics will be making the quilt exhibit circuit, featured in some gorgeous quilts at a few quilt festivals this Autumn!  Quilts made of American Made Brand solids featured in the Farm to Fabric Challenge from 2014, as well as the lovely AMB License Plate Quilt (as shown above) will be shown in 3 upcoming quilt festivals.  Fill up your gas tanks, rev up your engines, and take a road trip to these quilt festivals to view the American Made Brand Farm to Fabric Challenge Quilt Exhibit.  Here’s your chance to see these absolutely fantastic quilts in person:

September 17-20, 2015 – Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza XXII- Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA

October 8-10, 2015 – Quiltfest Oasis Palm Springs- Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA

October 15- 18, 2015- Pacific International Quilt Festival XXIV- Santa Clara, CA

Last year in 2014, in conjunction with the debut of American Made Brand solid fabrics, we hosted the Farm to Fabric Quilt Challenge where entrants were asked to design & make their quilts using the beautiful assortment of American Made Brand solid fabrics and answer the theme question: What does it mean to you, your family or your community to bring fabric production back to America to use in your American made quilts?  Several applicants submitted quilts, but through the juried contest, a handful of the best quilts were selected to be exhibited.  Clothworks is excited to continue touring the Farm to Fabric Challenge Quilt exhibit so that you may have a chance to admire these amazing quilts made from AMB!

You might also remember from last year here on the Works, we took you on the AMB Blog Tour– a virtual road trip visiting all 50 States in the USA, meeting a new blogger per state, and viewing their contribution to the AMB License Plate Quilt.  This quilt will also be featured along with the Farm to Fabric Challenge Quilt Exhibit at the upcoming quilt festivals mentioned above.

The Farm to Fabric Challenge Exhibit along with the AMB License Plate Quilt was shown at The World Quilt Show in Manchester, NH from August 13-15.  Although we missed it, you can read the account of it from our blogger friend, Victoria of Park Hill Farm, also known as ‘Ms. New Hampshire’ on the AMB Road Trip Blog Tour.

And just a reminder…..

It’s not too late to enter into this year’s American Made Brand Quilt Challenge, The Tiny Quilt Challenge for 2015.  We are still taking entries through September 15, 2015.  This year we’re extremely excited to offer a ‘Junior’ category for entrants below the age of 18!

Read here for full details on how to enter and register your quilt into the AMB Tiny Quilt Challenge…… and Good Luck!

Clothworks Open House: A Success!

open house balloons

If you’ve been following us here at the Works, you may have seen that we made a big move recently.  After months of planning, preparation, and clean-up, we moved into our new location just across town at the beginning of the new year.  Having had a few months to settle into our new digs, it was about time that we host an official Open House, welcoming our beloved customers to our new location in Seattle.  If you made it out to see us at the Clothworks Open House last Thursday and Friday, we greatly appreciate having you come out to see the new warehouse set-up!

open house goodies

Not only did we entice our customers to attend the Open House with food (did I mention the pork & chicken sliders and chocolate brownies??), but we provided each of our customers with complimentary sample squares of our new cotton solid collection, the American Made Brand fabrics, pictured in the basket above, and also ran a ‘Winter’s End Sale’ with some screamin’ deals!!  No wonder we had some out-of-state folks make the trek up to Seattle to take advantage of the promos!

Aurifil thread, Guess How Much I Love You Lux Cuddle fabric, American Made Brand Cotton solids, as well as AMB color cards & totebags, and Cut Goods were just a few of the featured items on promo during our Open House, besides the other stock listed in our sale catalog.

In case you missed the Open House, here are a few pics of our new warehouse below:

The vaulted ceilings in our new warehouse provice ample space to display the beautiful quilts made from our fabrics, constructed by our talented team of sample-makers!

Our new warehouse accommodates the expanding fabric collections we offer, as well as providing our wholesale customers with a user-friendly shopping experience.  With neatly marked shelves, wider aisles, and lots of light, it’s no wonder our wholesale customers lingered a bit longer to stock up on tons of fabric!

The Clothworks crew had a lot of fun hosting the Open House last week! As we mingled with our customers, it was fun to meet some new folks and re-connect with our long-time, dedicated ones.  It appeared that our customers enjoyed the Open House, too!  So much so, that they wanted to climb in the trunk of their car to be with their fabric! 🙂

Holiday SHB cropped

For those of you lucky enough to live in Washington State near Lake Washington, it’s time to get your shop-on and support a few of the Local Quilt Shops this weekend.  Five featured Local Quilt Shops around the Greater Seattle area will be hosting the First Annual Around the Lake Quilt Shop Holiday Hop this coming Friday December 5th & Saturday December 6th!

During this first ever mini Holiday-themed Shop Hop, a free pattern will be featured highlighting Clothworks fabric, American Made Brand solids— in a festive and cheery block aptly titled the ‘Merry & Bright Star’ block.

Shop Hop Block AMB

This free pattern block’s inspiration comes from a quilt made by talented local quilter/pattern designer, Anita Peluso of Bloomin’ Workshop (also known as Ms. Washington State during the AMB Blog Tour Road Trip this past summer).  Anita made this gorgeous quilt shown in the pics below from AMB solids in the red-cream-white color way.  The Feathered Star quilt pattern she used is from none other than one of Clothworks’ talented fabric designers, Marsha McCloskey, renowned for her pattern drafting ingenuity in the complex Feathered Star quilt block designs.  As you can tell from comparing it to the inspiration, the free pattern block for the Shop Hop is a simplified version which still maintains the bold, holiday-inspired color combo of red & white!
